Great Car Audio... It's not just for rich folks anymore.
For several years I have been working on mobile audio projects
in everything from pickups to vans to boats
and I have learned a few things I would like to pass on.
The most often asked question I get from people is "How can I get this thing to sound as good as my home stereo but with more bass?". My answer to them is "Your home stereo system sucks too, but that is another project entirely!".
Just kidding!
Actually I tell people that your home and car are two completely different animals and going about having QUALITY audio in your car is a lot trickier than you might think. One must consider a lot of things to make this dream a reality.
First off we have a lot more variables to contend with in a car than a house. Things like road noise, cramped spaces, insufficient or dirty power, and lots of glass just to name a few.
Second, we have to take into consideration the layout of speaker positioning and phase alignment.
And, last but, certainly not least, we have to get out of the mindset that thunderous bass, while it has it's place, is the end all be all of existence in mobile audio. If you do want thunderous bass, follow the design ideas anyway they can only improve your bass
experience in the long run. I will also include a section for SPL for those interested.
In the pages that follow I will use the knowledge I have gained through trial and error, study and knowledge from other sources to help you in your quest for great car audio.
